James E. Murphy, CPA
Managing Partner
Jim
Murphy is a seasoned tax professional with over 35 years of experience.
As a firm partner for the last 29 years, Jim specializes in the areas
of income taxation, estate planning, and wealth management. Prior
to becoming partner, Jim worked for the Internal Revenue Service as
a revenue agent and as a tax manager for a large national certified
public accounting firm.
As
one of the firm's visionaries, Jim has been instrumental in developing
the firm's estate planning, trusteeship, trust administration, and
wealth management services. As a tax consultant and financial advisor
to many high net wealth individuals, Jim advises on complex multigenerational
planning issues, including income and estate tax, works with various
business professionals in developing financial plans, acts as trustee or co-trustee
for over 100 trusts, and administers over 100 additional trusts. Jim's extensive
tax experience also extends to corporations, where he works with a
variety of industries in all areas of tax compliance and planning.
Furthermore, Jim occasionally serves as a corporation officer or acting CFO.
Jim's
societal memberships include the American Institute of Certified Public
Accountants, the Illinois CPA Society, and John Carroll University
Presidents Council. Jim is also an Officer of Ruth Lake Country Club. Moreover, Jim is involved in a wide range of philanthropic
activities: Saint Ignatius College Prep, American Cancer Society, Evans Scholarship Fund, Children's Memorial Hospital, The Alzheimer Association, and he is also a founding donor of The NBC/John Carroll University Meet The Press Fellowship created in honor of friend Timothy J. Russert. Jim received
his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Accounting from
John Carroll University .
